Opening Sentences

I laid me down and slept, and rose up again : for the LORD sustained me.

Psalm 3:5

Rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

Joel 2:13

Confession of Sin

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us; 9 but if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:8-9

HAVE mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness:
according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
Wash me throughly from mine iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my transgressions:
and my sin is ever before me.

Against thee, thee only, have I sinned,
and done this evil in thy sight:
that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest,
and be clear when thou judgest.
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity;
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts:
and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean:
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Make me to hear joy and gladness;
that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
Hide thy face from my sins,
and blot out all mine iniquities.

Psalm 51:1-9

BLESSED is he whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no guile.

I acknowledged my sin unto thee,
and mine iniquity have I not hid.
I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord;
and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.

Psalm 32:1-2; 5

Invitatory

O LORD, open thou my lips;
and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

Psalm 51:15

MAKE haste, O God, to deliver me;
make haste to help me, O Lord.

Psalm 70:1

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Venite

O COME, let us sing unto the Lord:
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving,
and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the deep places of the earth:
the strength of the hills is his also.
The sea is his, and he made it:
and his hands formed the dry land.

O come, let us worship and bow down:
let us kneel before the Lord our maker.
For he is our God;
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.

Psalm 95:1-7

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Second Lesson

Benedictus – Luke 1:68-79

BLESSED be the Lord God of Israel : for he hath visited and redeemed his people;
69 And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us : in the house of his servant David;
70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy Prophets : which have been since the world began;
71 That we should be saved from our enemies : and from the hand of all that hate us.
72 To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers : and to remember his holy Covenant;
73 To perform the oath which he sware to our forefather Abraham : that he would give us;
74 That we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies : might serve him without fear;
75 In holiness and righteousness before him : all the days of our life.
76 And thou, Child, shalt be called the Prophet of the Highest : for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people : for the remission of their sins,
78 Through the tender mercy of our God : whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us;
79 To give light to them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death : and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

OUR Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Matthew 6:9b-13

The Collect of the Week

WE beseech thee, Almighty God, look upon the hearty desires of thy humble servants, and stretch forth the right hand of thy Majesty, to be our defence against all our enemies; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Collect for Peace

O GOD, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom; Defend us thy humble servants in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries, through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Collect for Grace

O LORD, our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day; Defend us in the same with thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings may be ordered by thy governance, to do always that is righteous in thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer in the time of any common Plague or Sickness

(Added during the COVID-19 pandemic)

O ALMIGHTY God, who in thy wrath did send a plague upon thine own people in the wilderness, for their obstinate rebellion against Moses and Aaron; and also, in the time of king David, didst slay with the plague of Pestilence threescore and ten thousand, and yet remembering thy mercy didst save the rest; Have pity upon us miserable sinners, who now are visited with great sickness and mortality; that like as thou didst then accept of an atonement, and didst command the destroying Angel to cease from punishing, so it may now please thee to withdraw from us this plague and grievous sickness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for The President of the United States, and all in Civil Authority

Amen.

The Grace

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.
